UNHRC - Power of the Press During Civil Unrest

Description:

The 21st century has seen the use of media evolve from a source of information into a tool of influence. While journalists and activists expose injustice and uplift the voices of the oppressed through media, regimes around the world have also used media to silence dissent in the form of propaganda, censorship, etc. As the media transitions towards a more digital platform, delegates must confront a reality where it's become harder to distinguish truth from disinformation. In this committee, these delegates will look through the benefits, and perils, that comes with the power of media during times of civil unrest. Delegates will need to craft solutions that not only protect the freedom of expression for the people, but also traverses the lines of ethics and politics that expression can create.
