Second Greco-Persian War: The Greek League

In 481 BCE, the Achaemenid Persians ruled the largest empire of the time, stretching from India to Macedonia, Armenia to Egypt. At the westernmost end of this empire sat a handful of small Greek city-states (poleis), half of whom had already surrendered to the Persian Kings. Despite this, the region showed continued resistance to Persian expansion, with the Athenian army stopping King Darius at Marathon. His successor, King Xerxes, resolved himself to finally subjugate the lands of mainland Greece, pulling every skilled soldier, sailor, and engineer from across his many lands to conquer this final frontier. It is up to the Greek poleis to save their cities through a combination of cooperation, ingenuity, and defiance. Against this existential threat, they must either rally and work together, or fall together.
