Rome Rewritten: The Roman Constitutional Convention (49 B.C.E)
Description:
The Roman Republic had one of the most unique political systems of the Ancient World. Lasting over 600 years, it would go on to inspire many modern day democracies, including the United States. In our timeline, the entire system collapsed following Julius Caesar’s civil war, eventually leading to the start of the Empire. Instead, this committee will explore an alternate timeline, where both sides decided to come together to rewrite the constitution of the Republic to keep it alive. You will have the opportunity to explore the political, economic, and social factors that defined Rome, and try to build a nation that is more stable and equitable than the Republic of our timeline.
