Commission on the Status of Women: Political participation of Women in Democratic Societies
Description
Formed in 1946 under the United Nations, the Commission on the Status of Women aims to promote equality of women and girls in the global context, setting standards for the members of the UN as they navigate securing women's right to thrive equal to their male counterparts. Additionally, political discussion or a lack thereof, women's access to these opportunities has historically been dominated by men. This has led to the continued exclusion and barriers to progress in gender equality, leaving large blind spots in the everyday struggle of women around the world. Delegates will discuss possible ways the CSW can guide and recommend actions to member states still struggling to meet this standard, debating the cost and benefits of potential solutions to aid towards these desired outcomes of increasing women's participation in politics in democratic societies.
